Croydon University Hospital

Croydon University Hospital (CUH) has more than 500 beds and each year provides care to around 27,000 in-patients and 350,000 out-patients; while another 41,000 people attend for emergency hospital care, and nearly 120,000 people attend the Accident and Emergency department each year.

Our challenge at the hospital was to replace a switchboard within the original space, while avoiding interruption to the power supply. We installed our ‘Orion’ vertically-isolated panel and withdrawable vacuum circuit breaker.

Not only is Orion a clean, environmentally-friendly product, but it’s also arc-proof to deliver enhanced operator safety. In the unlikely event of an internal fault it is designed to deflect any hot gases produced to the rear of the unit, away from the operator. Even better, it can be operated remotely, so any risk to the operator is further reduced.

Our involvement at CUH included electrical design drawings with new modern relays, incorporating synchronised control to check for synchronism with hospital generation. We also provided delivery and off-loading, and onsite installation and build.

Premier Foods

Premier foods is one of Britain’s biggest listed food companies, which employs over 4,000 people at 15 sites and offices across the UK. Its product range includes well-known brands such as Ambrosia, Loyd Grossman and Mr Kipling.

Premier Foods needed to replace some of its existing switchgear panels that contained oil-insulated breakers with a more environmentally-friendly product. So the food manufacturer chose one of our new retrofit vacuum circuit breakers to fit their existing panels. This project, which took us one day to complete has prolonged the life of their equipment, enhanced safety, and reduced maintenance costs with no need to test or change oil.
